The installer is safe as is the contained ffmpeg build. Naturally since it has never seen this software, it may warn you. Windows 8 and later have a SmartScreen feature that blocks software that it doesn't trust.

Issues are open only for install and uninstall process. Issues regarding ffmpeg should be directed elsewhere. This repo houses installers for release full and release essentials.

release essentials - built from latest release branch with commonly-used libraries.

release full - built from latest release branch with a large set of libraries.

git essentials - built from master branch with commonly-used libraries.

git full - built from master branch with a large set of libraries.

Attempting to run it on 32-bit will fail. All builds are 64-bit.Д«ecause ffmpeg is built for 64-bit only, this installer is 64-bit only. If you're downloading ffmpeg to support features in a program such as Krita or Blender, get the release essentials build. They may work on Windows Vista but that hasn't been tested. These are compatible with Windows 7 and above. hosts packages containing binaries of ffmpeg, ffprobe and ffplay. If you still see 'not found', you may have installed the wrong libraries.

Navigate to the folder that contains FFmpeg, and select the file avformat-55.dll.

If the ' Locate FFmpeg' dialog appears, click Browse.

If a ' Success' message indicates Audacity has now automatically detected valid FFmpeg libraries and asks if you want to detect them manually, click No, then OK to close Preferences.

To do this, access Preferences then the 'Libraries' tab on the left:ДЄs seen in the image above, the 'FFmpeg Library Version' will say 'not found'. If you installed FFmpeg while Audacity was running, or if you installed FFmpeg to a non-default location, Audacity will ask you to configure Preferences to locate the FFmpeg library.
